We are proposing to close the Garden Park warming house and facility. We would still maintain the ice, but Vie would remove the hockey boards and the building. This would save us approximately $10,000 in upkeep of the facility, lights, painting and constant repair of the hockey boards. It would also save us considerable man hours of ice maintenance of high quality for this facility. IJe would use the man power in other areas where we have not given a high quality of maintenance because of past years' cut backs. Two warming houses were closed in 1979 and our budget at that time was cut. We also cut the summer playground program by 50°o in 1978. Cutting of the tree inspection program by $5,000. We could still maintain our extensive tree inspection program from May to August, but cut back between the months of August to May. $5,000 of the $25,000 Part Time summer help program might be cut. One of the summer part time help areas that we.would cut back on would be the creative dramatics and theater program which could now become part of the Performing Arts Board at the Community Center which would save approximately $1,500 staff time. The other $3500 would be just general cut back of part time summer general maintenance. One of the things that we do not want to cut back in the Park and Recreation Department is the continuing capital improvement and repair of the park system of our present facilities.
