RESOLUTION No. 2003-24
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
Whereas, the Edina High School Concert Band has rehearsed and performed since the founding
of Edina High School in 1949; and
Whereas, under the inspired leadership of its conductors—Butler, Eitel, Melichar, Elledge and
Webb—the Band for 49 consecutive years has earned "Superior" rankings (the highest
achievable) at the Minnesota State High School League contests; and
Whereas, the Band has a history of major convention performances, including appearances at
the Midwest Clinic, Iowa Bandmasters Association (as the only out-of-state high school band
ever invited) and Minnesota Music Educators Association; and
• Whereas, Edina High School through its fifty annual Pops Concerts has skillfully crafted an
exquisite lyric mosaic fashioned from brass, silver and wood; and
Whereas, this year's Pops Concert titled "Pops ... A Golden Celebration"will be held Feb. 21,
22, 27, 28 and March 1 and 2, and an reunion banquet celebration to be attended by several
hundred band alumni held March l;
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Edina City Council does hereby express its thanks
and appreciation on behalf of all Edina citizens to the
EDINA HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND
for their fifty years of entertainment to the citizens of Edina; and
Be It Further Resolved, that this resolution be entered in the minutes of the Edina City
Council.
