Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation
Whereas, in 2007, almost 6,300 children were abused and neglected; 46 children
suffered life-threatening injuries and 16 children died from maltreatment.
Whereas, child abuse is an issue that affects all member of our community and
finding solutions depends on involvement among people throughout the
community;
Whereas, child abuse prevention works when partnerships are created between
parents, practitioners, schools, faith communities, health care organizations, law
enforcement agencies and the business community;
• Whereas,with the assistance and resources of agencies and organizations such
as the Cornerstone Advocacy Service, we can offer positive alternative for young
people and encourage parents and youth to develop strong ties to their
communities;
Whereas, all citizens need to be more aware of child abuse and neglect and its
prevention within the community and be involved in supporting parents to raise
their children is a safe, nurturing society;
Now, Therefore, I,James B. Hovland, Mayor of the City of Edina, hereby
proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Edina and call upon all
citizens, community groups, religious organizations, medical facilities, and
businesses to increase their participation in efforts to prevent c ild abuse.
