HomeMy WebLinkAbout19340611_REGULAR39 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Council of the Village of Edina held in Grance Hall at 8 PM, on Juee 11, 1934,, ./ The meeting*as called to order by the President and all members of the Council were found present. Mr. H. E. Shuler appeared beyore the Council and presented a bill for sersices as expert witness in the Court case of Virginia Stolzman vs. County of Hennepin and Village of ' Xdina, stating that the maJor part of three days ha& been spent in attending this case and that. $25.00, the amount of the bill, was very reasonable, Whereupon it was moved Moore that the bill be allowed and ordered paid, seconded by Willson and carried. C. J. Christofer and Oscar Gaarden apgeared before the Council and presented certain estimated costs applying to the financ- ing and operation of a water works system and that their estimated costs fbr pumping and supplies would be 6..71@ per thousand gallons and that the financing and pay-off costs were estimated at 5.80$ per thousand gallons, or a total cost of 12.51$ per thousand gallons as the price at which well water might be sold to local residents. After discussion it was thought best that a committee be appointed to take up with Thorpe Bros. the probability of purchase by the Village of assets of the Country Club District Service Company. It was thereupon maved by Blackburn that the President appoint a committee of two to take up the matter of purehase of assets of the Country Club District Service Company water system. Motion seconded by' Willson and carried. Whereupon the President appointed Trustee Blackburn and Recorder Hoore as the committee to investfgpe and report to the Couneil, Hr. J. Williams, 3509 E. 54th St., requested a permit to operate a cash and carry ice business on the southeast corner of W, 54til St. and France Avenue. He was advised tbere would &no objection to the operation of a cssh and carry ice business at the above location or the moving upon the premises of a porta.ble 8' x 10' ice' house, providing a letter was written to the President of the Council stating the building and the business mas temporary only and taat building would be removed not later than October 15, 1934. Mr. Leahy of the Rural Hennepin County Emergency Relief Administration appeared before the Councii pertaining to Relief matters and presented administrattve assesament of $2.50 for Nay and $6.00 for the month of June, Which on motion Prescozt, be paid. Motion seconded by Willson and carried. ' Application in form by Prs. I?. M. Kline for building permit to build a 12' x 24' gara,ge building having garage doors, to be located 80 feet from the front lot line on lot 3, block 5, Brookside Heigats Addition, was on motion Prescott be granted. Seconded by Willson and carried, Application in form f'or building permit by E. Larson to build a private building on lot 20, block 10, COD Fairway, 4629 Bruce Avenue was on motion Blackburn be granted. $econded by Trustee Blackburn presented a bill of Thorpe Bros, in amount $27.20 assumed to be for the reseeding of lam to the west of the Tract Office. In as much as the damage was directly traceable to oil trucks delivering fuel oil to the Tract Office, and not to Village police car, and for the further reason the bill was grossly exhorbitant, it was moved Moore that the bill, be disallowed, Motion seconded by Balckburn and carried. . Prescott and carried. .F a I 40 A communication from the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission dat& Nay 29, 1934 was read, nherein the Hinneapolis, Northfield and Southern Railway petitioned for the removal of the Timber Highnay bridge laid out and traveled across government Lot 5, Section 28, Township 117, Range 21, Hopkins Road, and that the hearing on the premises was ordered to be held at Grmge Hall on Wednesday, June 27, 1934, at 11 otclock A.H. at mhich time and place all interested parties would be given full opportunity to be heard. The Ernergency Relief Administration having taken over all relief work in the Vi1la.ge of Edina, the services of Mrs. L. Ef. Jarvis as Village Relief Worker aould no longer be required after the first of June. It was thereupon moved byTiillson that warrant be issued and check be dram in favor of ESrs. L. M. Jarvis in amount of $30.00 in full payment 5th all services up to June 1, 1934. Motion seconded by Moore and carried. The minutes of the meeting of the Council held on Xay 28, 1934 were read, on motion Blaclkburn they be approved as read.
