Minutes of the regular meeting of the Oouncil of the Village of Edina
held in Grange Hall at 8 PV, on Hay 27, 1935.
The meet€ng was called to order by the President, roll was
called and all members of the Council vere found present except Trustee Prescott.
tlr. S. E. Jacobs appeared before the Cobcil on hehalf of
the Zoning Ordinance be changed so as to permit a Jewish Burial Ground to be extablished on a plat of appgoxirnately five acres of land in section 32, north of Highmay No. 5 and east of Franoe Avenue. After discussion, the matter mas concluded by reason of nonsupport on the part of the Council to change the Zonfng Ordinance.

Urs. S. IC. Strong presented a pegition i3igned by residents living &n the Warden Acres neighborhood, requesting that the Hansen Road be extended, improved, graded and opened ,from 60th St. to Valley View Road. On motion Moore,‘ the petition be accepted and referred to the Road and Bridge Committee, seconded by Blackburn and carried.
Application made in fom’for building permit by Hr. H. E. Fierke to build a detached private garage at 4510 Mooreland Avenue after plans by Architecht Bard. The fact that garage vas omitted from the orfginal building program ten years
ago, and that neighboring garages were directly attached to the houses, caused quite a problem in the’location of
this’ proposed additional building. At the suggestion of
the Recorder, Hessrs. Graham, Bone11 and Wilkinson, neigh- bors, sat in on the general discussion which was held. After which and by agreement of all present, it was moved Blackburn that permit be granted to build a double detached garage to be located approximately eight feet from the rear of present house and approximately thirty-five feet east of
the rear lot line and more than five feet 0f.f each side line. Eotion seconded by Moore and carried.
Applica%ion in form for building permit by Carl Hansen to build a one and one-half story private dwelling at 5301 Xooddale Avenue, was on motion Blackburn, be granted, sec- onded by Moore and carried.
Application in form.for building permit by Clarence IC. Bross to build a garage addition at 4518 Bruce Avenue, mas on motion Blackburn, be granted, seconded by Hoore and c arri ed .
Application was made for permission to locate proposed
. buildings on lot 18, block &, Fa,irway Section, the garage portion of which would be within three feet of the lot .
line. In 8s much as there mould be approximately sixteen feet betmeen this and adjacent buildings, if the five-foot
set-back rule was observed as provided in the Zoning ’
Ordinance, the Council did not deem it advisable to change
the Boning Ordinance.
Xessrs. D. V?. gallace and C. W. Chance appeared before the Council with protests regarding small buildfngs being built and used for business purposes at the south-east corner of West 50 St. and Halifax Avenue, vhich appeaxed to be a violation of the Zoning Ordinance, same is located outside the Community Store District. After discussion, it was moved Noore that the matter be
referred to the Village Attorney, seconded by Blackburn and carried.

A proposal was made to sell road gravel to the Village to
be taken from the Xorrss Hansen property south of Inter- lachen Road. In as much a8 the proposal seemed to be the opening of a gravel pit in a residential district, the matter was referred to the Village At%orney for advise.

Trustee Rillson of the Committee to whom was referred the matter of officially haming certain zoads, streets and avenues in the Village of Edina, reported and offered the
f ollowfng resolution:
"An Drdinanoe Nming and Renaming Certain Roads, Streets and Avenues in the Village of Edina.H
For the purpose of promdting the health, safety, order, convenience, prosperity and general wel- fare in the Village of Edina, the Council of the Village of Edina does ordain as follows:
That O'Jrd County Boad Bo. 2, running southwesterly from West 50 St. to State Highway No. 169, hereto- for known as Eden Prairie Road 'shall henceforth be known as "Eden Avenue."
Thafr the heretofor unnamed road running north from fnterlachen Road to north of the Minneapolis, St. Paul Suburban Railway right of way through the Cooper property, shall henceforth be known as
110 ooper Avenue .
That-BBain Street running south from the Minneapolis
St. Paul Suburban Railgay, then southeasterly in
the vicinity of Mirror Lake and along the south shore of Mirror Lake, then south, the so-called Jones Road, shall henceforth be named "Blake Road."
That the present unnamed road, an extension of Interlachen Road,.running west approximately one-
half mile from the Blake Road, shall henceforth
be known ad '$Interlachen Road.*
That County Road 39, from the corner af Vest 62
Stb' and the Belt Line Highway, Code's Corner and running southwesterly to the Poor Farm Road on west Village limits, shall henceforth be known. as ItValley View Road."
That the $oad often referred to as the Gleason Road running from the intersebtion of the Valley
View Road and Highway No. 169, shall henceforth
be known as "Gleason Road."
That the present unnamed road running south from
West 70 St., Cahill School Corner, south to Highway No, 5, shall henceforth be known as Cahfll Road. a
That the extension of West 70'St., west of the
Oahill Road intersection at Cahill Schobl, a distance of approximately one-half mile, shall .henceforth be known as "West 70 Street."
That the so-called Olinger Road running south and aeSCerly from Hightoay No. 169 to Valley View Road, shall henceforth be'known as HOlinger
Road. *
That the so-called Hansen Road running south from State Highway Wo. 169, if and when ex- tended to Valley View Road, shaJl henceforth be known as nHa,nsen R0ad.H t
All ofdinances and parts of ordinances inconsistent with
the provisions of this ordinance are hierby repealed to
the extent of such inconsistency.
The motion to adbpt was ofiered by Trustee Blackburn and seconded by Moore. The question being upon the sdoption
mf resolution, whemin there were four a.ye$ and no nays, and so declared duly carried.

It vas moved Villson that the President and Recorder be authorized and emporered to sign the ERA Nay deficit forms, seconded by Blackburn and carried.
Application of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company to set one pole on Hankerson Avenue at West 51 Sf. was on motion Willson, be granted, seconded by Blackburn
and carried,
A letter from Hr. Karl Cove11 vas read suggesting the
‘ladvisability of obtaining‘ additional water far the Uill Bond by some arrangement with Tnorpe Bros. It
mas suggested that water might be obtained from the Country Golf Club well and some oonnection be made by means of iron pipe and fire hose. on file. The letter was placed

The minutes of the regular meeting of the Council held on May 13, 1935, were read, on motion Blackburn they be approved as read, seconded by Billson and carried,
