Mrs. Lucy Lawrence and Nrs. August Mae appeared before the Council in protest to sidewalks arid curb being laid in and along $heir property, while admitting the necess- ity and advisability of the improvements being gade at this time, protested on the basis of any assessment which would be necessary to levy, Whereupon it was moved Noore th8.t the iaprovement of sidewalks and/or curb be ordered in. Motion seconded by Blackburn and carried. Ur, Leo NcClellan appeared before the Council and reques- ted that West 54th Street between Baird and Chowen Ave. be regraded, which was referred to the Road and Bridge 0 ommi t t e e f o r act i on , School Truskees Borey and Tupa, Supt. Glover, along with Mr. Ludwig representing Sund and Dunhan, Architects, presented on behalf of the School District a propsed . addition to the Edina School Building. After discussion on the subjectof necessary exits, as well as zoning re- quirements, the gentlemen were assured of the Council's fulles cooperation in the matter. The Road and Village payroll advances, having been duly exanined, were on motion Willson be allowed and ordered paid, seconded by Prescott and carried. Application in form for building permit by I?. J. Sime to build a private dwelling at 4610 Drexel, accompanied by the usual building permit and I1Clean-upt1 applications and checks, was on motion Blackburn, be granted, seconded by Prescott and carried. Application in fora for building permit by Carl N. Hansen to build a private dwelling at 4504 Edina Blvd. , accompan- ied by the usual building perhit and llCIlean-up" applica- tfons und checks, was on motion Blackburn, be granted, seconded by Willson and carried. Applica.tion in form for building permit by J. y.. Zajicik to build a private dwelling on lofl), block 11,' South Harriet'Park Addition, set back thirty-five feet, accom- panied by the wual building permit fee, was.on mo.tion Villson, be granted, seconded by Blackburn and carried. Recorder Noore brought to the attention of the Council the proposed change by the State and Federal Government in the handling of Relief and that in all probability local municipal units would have to carry or aarange to carry a11 of the relief load. It was suggested by Mr. Moore La the Council that relief might be carried by a compre- hensive plan of public improvements, and that relief labor so employed would result in public benefits, while money paid for direct relief carried with it no public works improvements. It was suggested that improvements em- ploying a large admount of labor be set up, such as parks, play-grounds, a recreation area and buildhng, highwa,y beautification, the preservation of ginnehaha Creek, resurfacing of streets, the rebuilding of sanitary sewers, storw sewers, and water works distribution systems, as means to this end. The Road and Bridge Committee, to whom was referred the matter of the installaation of road signs, reported and suggested that 37 four-my ahd 14 two-way signs be in- stalled at strategic places throughout the Village, whereupon it was moved Blackkburn that the Cornmitteels report be accepted and adopted and that the signs be purchased from the Lyle Signs, Inc., as per their .- d 6 , 104 quotations under date of June 10.
