HomeMy WebLinkAbout19410505_REGULARMinutes of the recessed portion of the regular April 28, 194l meeting of the Council of the Village of Edina, duly held in Grange Hall on May 5, 19l+l., at 8:OO o'clock Po a, The meeting was called to order by the President, the roll called and all members of the Council were present, Village Attorney Holten advised the Council that as requested he had con- tacted several of the bond houses regarding purchase of Sewer District No. 8 warrants, the impression being that unless an excessive rate of interest . mere charged, that the proposed warrants were not desirable unless the full faith and credit of the Village was pledged to secure same. After study and discussion of the tabulated bids received for materials, equipment rental and sewer trench excavation, it was moved Irgens that all bids received, except those for sewer pipe, bends, Y's, and equipment rental, be rejected and certified checks returned; seconded by Tiillson and carried. Trustee Irgens offered the following resolution andmoved its adoption: K % - RESOLUTION CAI;GING FOR AND DIRECTING NOTICE FOR NEYJ BIDS - BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Edina as follows : Plans and specifications for a sanitary sever in Sewer District No. 8 of the Village, prepared by B. H. Bradley and filed in the office of the Village Recorder on Harch %thy 190, having been approved and accepted and proposal for bids for furnishing materials, rental of equipment and excava- tion of trenches for said Server District having been received at a meeting of sa5d Council on the 21st day of April, 190, pursuant to notice to bidders duly published, and consideration of said bids having been deferred to this meetipg,. held on Nay .%h, 194l., and said Council having duly rejected bids so received for purchase of part of the materials and the excavation of sewer trenches, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council shaU meet on Monday, the 2nd day of June, 190, at 8:OO or clock P. B. , for the purpose of opening, receiving and considering bids for materials and the excavation of sewer trenches for the construction of said seuer in Sewer District No', 8 of said Village, in accordance with plans and specifications as approved, and covering materials and the excavation of sewer trenches hereinafter described. Notice to bidders shall be made by publication for three (3) successive weeks in the official newspaper of the Village and in The Improve- ment Bulletin, printed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which notice shall be in substantia3l-y the following form: -- PROPOBAL FOR BIDS FOR FURNISHING MATERIALS AND EXCAVATING TFENCHES FOR SANITARY SBVlD DISTRICT NO, 8 - Sealed proposals will be received by the Village of Edina, &e- sota, at Grange Hall, at the corner of Eden Road and Highway No, 100, .in said Village, until. 8:OO o'clock P. saidtime for consideration by the Village Council, for the furnishing of materials and the excavation of sewer trenches for a sanitary sewer in said Village, as follows: on Zune 2nd, 19U, andivill be opened at 3500 5000 26000 1500 700 1000 83 lbs. oakum, lbs. kalktite, 6" concrete manhole blocks, bbls. Portland cement, tons of washed sand, tons of gravel, Hinneapolis standard manhole rings and covers, I 1200 Minneapolis standard galvanized iron manhole steps, 4OOOO F.B.M. sheathing and bracing, 17000 F,B.M. 3~2" Plank, Excavating 18,195 lineal feet of sewer trench, 10x35 feet deep. The above to be in accordance with plans and specifications there- for on file with the Tillage Clerk, at 4605 Wooddale Avenue, in said Tillage, and in accordance with the rules and requirements of the Works Progress Ad- ministration of the United States of America. The plans and specifications may be seen at said office of said Village Clerk, or at the office of B. H. Bradley, Village Engineer, 217 South 6th Street, llinneapolis, Minnesota. Mra copies maybe procured on application by depositing $15.00, one-half to be refunded when the plans and specifications are returned in good condition. . All bids must be unconditional and be on the basis of cash payment for the material and work. A certified check in the amount of 15% of the amount bidmust accompany all bids. refuses to enter into a written contract for the performance of the work and furnishing of materials, and to give a bond as required by law, within twenty (20) days after notice of the award of the contract, the check will be for- feited to the Village as liquidated damages. will be returned after the contract has been awarded. All the terms and provisions of the foregoing notice are hereby made a part of this resolution, as though separately set out and resolved herein. , The motion to adopt was seconded by Trustee Willson and the vote was upon the question of the adoption of the resolution, wherein there were five ayes and no nays, and so the resolution was adopted. Gebo advised that stagnant water existed in low land west of France Avenue and south of West 48th Street, and requested culvert across West 48th Street for drain. and Bridge Committee. The matter of personal injury to L. Stolgaan of Village &ad Crew in December 1940, vherein the insurance company would pay the hospital and doctor bills but no compensation, was duly referred to Village Attorney Holten . Chairman Irgens of Police Committee recommended that the low bid of Hayden M'otor Company for one l9U Ford V-8 Deluxe &door automobile, per adver- tised requirements at net amount of $359.00, be accepted and checks of unsuccessful bidders returned, seconded Wy&t and carried. No further business to come before the meeting at this time, the President declared the meeting recessed at U:OO P. M., subject to the call of the President. - Village Recorder -
