AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 145 AND SECTION 1220
OF THE CITY CODE TO PERMIT THE APPOINTMENT OF
STUDENT MEMBERS TO THE PARK BOARD AND
THE RECYCLING AND SOLID WASTE COMMISSION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDINA ORDAINS:
Section 1. Subsection 145.03 of the City Code is amended to read as follows:
"Membership. The Commission shall consist of six members appointed by the Mayor with the
consent of the majority of the Council. One member of the Commission may be a high school student.
All members of the Commission shall be residents of the City and shall be appointed for a term of
three years, except that a student member shall be appointed for a term of one year. Members shall
serve until a successor has been appointed. Upon termination of a member's term, that member's
successor shall be appointed for the remainder of such term. Members of the Commission shall serve
without compensation and may resign voluntarily or be removed by a majority vote of the Council
pursuant to Section 180 of this Code. Commission members who discontinue legal residency in the
City may be removed from office by the Mayor with the consent of a majority of the Council."
Section 2. Subsection 1220.03 of the City code is amended to read as follows:
"Membership. The Park Board shall consist of eleven residents of the City. One member shall also
be a member of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 273. One member may be
a high school student. Members shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of a majority of the
Council; provided, however, that the member from the Board of Education shall be appointed by the
Board of Education with the consent of the majority of the Council. Terms shall be three years except
the Board of Education member and the student member shall serve one-year terms. Members shall
serve until a successor has been appointed. Upon termination of a member's term, that member's
successor shall be appointed for the remainder of such term. Members of the Park Board shall serve
without compensation and may resign voluntarily or be removed by a majority vote of the Council
pursuant to Section 180 of this Code. Park Board members who discontinue legal residency in the
City may be removed from office by the Mayor with the consent of a majority of the Council. The
member who is appointed by the Board of Education shall be ineligible to serve on the Park Board if
that members ceases to be a member of the Board of education."
Section 3. This ordinance shall be full force upon passage.
