Manager Hyde reviewed for the Council the matter of a $34,000 Claim entered by KinneaDolis Gas Company in connection w2th the Company's-mking of its 24" hi& pressuie gas main Avenue; and the subsequent negotiations between County, Village, Company, and . Southdale,- whereby the Gas Company's claim has been reduced to a total of $28,000, of which the Company will absorb one-quarter, and the County, Village and Southdale will each absorb one-quarter, Mr, Hydets recommendation was that Village accept the claim and forward to the County its claim for $7,000, paying the Gas Company only after Village has received payment from the County, and a report by the Village Attorney, I&. Ifindhorst advised Council to accept WZkement of claim for $21,000 contingent upon Village (or Gas Company) receiving contributions of $7,000 each from County and Southdale toward said settlement, (this advice being given on premise that Council wishes to settle rather than take this matter into Court). for $21,000 contingent upon Village's receiving (or payment direct to Minneapolis Gas Company) contributions of $?,OOO each from Hmnepin County and Southdale, was seconded by Bredesen and carried. Manager Hyde requested delay in Council action, pending check with Richfield as to adoption of Ordinance permitting, BILL FOR SEWAGE TREATMENT AM3 MAINTENANCE, CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS. explained that Edina is party to two sewage disposal contracts-an old one with the City of Minneapolis, and a new one with the Village of Richfield; that Edina pays to Minneapolis for sewage treatment at the Metropolitan Sewage District Plant, and also pays for sewer maintenance; that this charge has always been s.28 per month per house for treatment and $l,OO per house per year for maintenance--but, that the bill for the last 1/2 of 1955 has come &n on a volume basis. Mr. Hyde explained that because this last bill is considerably higher than former .ones he wishes to give Council due notice; that he will refer matter to Village Attorney for investigation and report before claim is considered for payment, Mr, Hyde presented figures to show that, at the new method of payment to Minneapolis, it will be necessary forthe Village to approximately double its 'Isewer rentalff charge. as part of the water bil1,'on the basis of winter-quarter water consumption--with a flat charge to be determined for those residences which have sewer but no water.
