City Seeks Online Comments on Bike Sharing
Edina, Minn., Feb. 20, 2018 – The City’s next online discussion is now available at SpeakUpEdina.org. The
discussion, which focuses on bike sharing, will be available until March 23.
Bike sharing is an innovative transportation solution, ideal for short-distance, point-to-point trips. These
systems provide users the ability to pick up a bicycle for use within a service area. Some have specific pick up
and drop off locations (docks) and some are “dockless,” meaning they are picked up and dropped off
randomly within the service area. These bicycles have GPS capabilities to monitor use and where they are
located. A vendor agreement would ensure bicycles are located within the pre-determined areas.
In this conversation, the City asks:
• Would you use this service? If so, how frequently?
• In what areas of the City could this service provide a benefit?
• What are your concerns about this potential transportation option?
Additionally in February, the City is working to gather feedback on the Edina Aquatic Center’s 60th
anniversary. Participants are asked to share their favorite memories at the Edina Aquatic Center; their
favorite amenities (e.g. zip line, water slides, zero-depth play structure, etc.) at the Edina Aquatic Center and
why; how the Edina Aquatic Center can improve the facility in the next decade; and how the Edina Aquatic
Center should celebrate its 60th anniversary this summer. This conversation is open through March 2.
The feedback from the bike sharing discussion will be compiled and presented to the City Council April 3.
