Edina K9 Unit Wins Awards
Edina, Minn., April 11, 2018 – Edina Police Officer Sean Young and his K9, Blitz, earned first place in
vehicle searches and second place in the regional team competition at the Wright County K9 Narcotics Trials
held at St. Michael-Albertville High School April 8.
The event is held by the United States Police K9 Association Region 12, which represents Minnesota;
Wisconsin; North Dakota; South Dakota and Manitoba, Canada.
Every year, the K9 unit needs a certification for narcotic detections and control of the K9. Control of the K9
tests how well the K9 obeys the commands of the officer and how the officer handles the K9 in different
scenarios.
“We go to the trials every year to get our certification and the award is just an extra bonus,” said Young.
“Blitz is very driven. He always wants to work.”
Officer Young has been paired with K9 Blitz since 2015.
