Ball and Larson Sworn in as Firefighter/Paramedics
Edina, Minn., April 25, 2018 – New Edina Paramedic/Firefighters Tyler Ball and Nick Larson took the oath
of office 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Fire Station 1, 6250 Tracy Ave.
Prior to being sworn in, Ball and Larson completed a three-week orientation training that finished with a live
fire training exercise in Burnsville. Both Paramedic/Firefighters will have continuous training for the next year
but will be on shift starting in early May.
Before coming to Edina, Ball worked for the Mdewakanton Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic and
was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of Savage.
“We’re excited to have him on board,” said Edina Fire Chief Tom Schmitz. “The fire service is a small
community, so several people on our teams knew him already.”
Larson joined the Edina Fire a Department after spending time as a paramedic for Hennepin County Medical
Center.
“He has some excellent experience as a paramedic and has had some fire training, though he was not recently
working as a firefighter,” said Schmitz. “That’s going to be a main focus of his year-long training.”
Schmitz is excited about the two new hires joining the ranks. “Both Tyler and Nick bring new perspectives
and young energy,” he said. “They have some experiences from other organizations and we will be sure to
capitalize on those good experiences and see if they can find ways to make positive changes or make our
operations more efficient.”
