Community Health Administrator Receives State Award
Edina, Minn., May 18, 2018 – Edina Community Health Administrator Jeff Brown received the Frank A.
Staffenson Award from the Minnesota Environmental Health Association (MEHA) in May.
This annual award is presented to a MEHA member who has performed an outstanding accomplishment that
significantly contributes to the development, expansion or advancement of environmental health or
performed a service that has produced a positive benefit to the profession as a whole.
Brown has been a member of MEHA for 16 years and a City of Edina employee for 11 of those. Brown
manages the Edina Health Division, which is responsible for public health; food, pool and lodging inspections;
and Code enforcement. Brown was honored with the MEHA Professional of the Year Award for his years of
commitment to environmental health.
“Jeff exemplifies what it means to be an advocate for environmental public health,” wrote Karen Swenson,
Director of Brown-Nicollet Environmental Health, in her nomination form. “Jeff’s work ethic and
conscientious nature help challenge and motivate everyone around him to produce results and effect change.”
Duane Hudson, Environmental Health Manager at Hennepin County Public Health wrote, “Jeff is a perfect
example of how a single person can positively impact the many environmental health issues we face in
Minnesota.”
“Jeff is good at managing issues,” said Edina Recycling Coordinator Solvei Wilmot. “And it’s not just here
within our department – it’s at the state level, too.”
Brown was surprised with the award at the MEHA spring conference in Deerfield, Minnesota.
Staffenson was the Director of Environmental Health for the City of Saint Paul for many years. He was
honored in 1985 with the award that was later named for him.
