Edina Police Department Seeks Volunteer Reserve Officers
Edina, Minn., June 7, 2018 – The Edina Police Department is accepting applications for Reserve Officers
through Friday, July 17. The Edina Police Reserves are a team of volunteer officers who donate their time and
effort to the City and the community in a variety of roles to assist the Police Department.
“The Edina Police Department looks forward to meeting a variety of individuals who want to give back to
their community and learn more about this profession,” said Officer Keith Boerger. “We invest a lot of time
and resources to train and equip our new Reserve Officers so that they can do great work. We sincerely
appreciate the time our Reserve Officers commit and the sacrifices they make for this program.”
The primary purpose of the Reserves is to assist the department whenever needed for any number of
reasons. This can include responding to severe weather, serious car accidents, fire scenes, lost or missing
people, crime scenes, power outages or special details as needed by the Police Department.
Aside from patrolling one or two Friday or Saturday nights per month and attending monthly training
meetings on the second Thursday of each month, Reserve Officers are needed at a variety of events
throughout the year, such as Race for the Cure, Edina Art Fair, Night to Unite, the 4th of July Parade and
more.
All Reserve Officers must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license and high
school diploma or GED equivalency, complete the Hennepin County Sheriff's Police Reserve School training
and commit to a minimum of 10 hours per month. Interviews will be conducted in August.
