Edina residents and visitors have access to bikes through a new dockless bike service. Lime is bringing its first shipment of dockless bikes to Edina Saturday, July 21, in the 50th & France and Southdale areas. Lime is similar to other bicycle-sharing programs operating in Minneapolis and St. Paul, but with one major difference – no docking stations. They can be parked anywhere, as long as it’s a legal parking location for a bike. To use the bikes, riders should download the Lime app. All bikes and scooters are GPS and 3G-enabled, making it simple for riders to find, unlock and pick up a nearby vehicle using the iOS or Android smartphone app. When the ride is finished, riders simply follow instructions in the app to end the ride and responsibly park between the pedestrian-designated sidewalk and the street curb or at a bike rack. Unlocking the bike costs $1. Customers are then charged $1 for every 30 minutes with the bike, until the session ends. Student pricing is available. Users can also find information in the app about distance traveled, calories burned and emissions saved. “Lime is excited to partner with the City of Edina to bring this sustainable mobility option to the community,” said Eric Kocaja, Lime General Manager. “We look forward to the response of both Edina residents and visitors to our dock-free bikes, as we love to address local transportation needs in the communities where we live and work.” Bikes all have contact information on them so residents can contact Lime directly to have bikes picked up if they are found in inappropriate places. The City will not pick up bikes. People can report any bikes that need attention or are being misused to Lime’s 24/7 customer service team, available through the app, email (support@limebike.com), and phone (Voice: 1-888-LIME-345 or Text: 1-888-546-3345). The program was implemented as a pilot program, following approval from the City Council in May. The program will run through the end of the year and will be evaluated for long-term implementation at that point. Lime is also deploying the program in other nearby communities, including Golden Valley. -30-
