FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Officers Charlie Possert and Derek Palmer Take Oath of Office
Edina, Minn., July 2, 2018 –The Edina Police Department officially gained two new team members 3:30
p.m. Thursday, June 28, when Officers Charlie Possert and Derek Palmer took the oath of office at Edina City
Hall.
Possert has five years of experience in the law enforcement field. He started out as a Reserve Officer for the
State Fair Police Department and worked as an intern with the Mankato Department of Public Safety. For the
previous three years, he has been a Deputy for the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
“I came to Edina because I was looking for a police agency with a great reputation,” said Possert. “Training has
been going great. I’m learning a lot about Edina -- the way of policing and how to serve the residents of Edina
to the fullest.”
Possert started on the road Monday, July 2.
Before joining the Edina Police Department, Derek Palmer worked in the Jail Division of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and like Possert, has five years of experience in the law enforcement field.
“I was always fascinated by the lights and sirens on my grandpa’s squad car,” said Palmer. “Once I got older, I
realized the amount of interaction you have with the community being a police officer and I wanted a job
where I felt I could make a difference.”
Palmer began working on the road Saturday, June 30.
