HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-09-20 City Council Work Session Minues MINUTES OF THE WORK SESSION OF THE EDINA CITY COUNCIL THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 6:05 P.M. Mayor Pro Tem Brindle called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. ROLL CALL Answering roll call were Members Fischer, Staunton, and Mayor Pro Tem Brindle. Absent: Member Stewart and Mayor Hovland. Edina City staff attending the meeting were: Jennifer Bennerotte, Communications and Technology Services Director; Ross Bintner Engineering Services Manager; Casey Casella, City Management Fellow; Scott Denfeld, Video Production Coordinator; Ann Kattreh, Parks & Recreation Director; MJ Lamon, Projects Coordinator; Katie Laux, Graphic Designer; Debra Mangen, City Clerk; Chad Millner, Engineering Director; Scott Neal, City Manager; Lisa Schaefer, Assistant City Manager; and Cary Teague, Community Development Director. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PLANNING Lisa Schaefer, Assistant City Manager and Jennifer Bennerotte Communications and Technology Services Director presented the second part of the proposed plan for Community Engagement. Staff reported the current use of social media and noted how impactful digital communication has become. In response to questions: I) Top priorities for city communications; 2) Areas city does well communicating; and 3) Areas for improvement; staff gave the following suggestions. Encourage the use of more Social Media, ensure strategic video production and include timelier information. This could include reimagining "Beyond the Badge", forming a feedback group, changing the structure of some print publications, evaluating the effectiveness of e-newsletters. The Council offered feedback to staff and thanked them for the work. Potential changes regarding meetings will be discussed at another work session.
