Council that the Hennepin County Highway had confirmed the Village's request to
lower the speed limit on France Ave., south from W. 60th St, to the Edina Village
Limits from 40 miles an hour to 35 miles an hour, but that the request to increase
speed limits from 30 miies an hour to 35 miles an hour had been denied for Interlachen
Blvd. between Bywood West and Blake Road because of the fact that this is such a short
segment of road.

LIBRARY COMMI &PO_RT DISCUSSED, Mayor Bredesen questioned Mrs. David Kroman ,
member of the Edina Library Committee, relative to the proposed 60,000 volumes
mentioned in the Library Committee Meeting Minutes of December 1, . Mayor Bredesen
stated that 30,000 to 40,000 volumes had always been the number of volumes previously
mentioned. Mrs, Kroman stated that Miss Helen Young, Director of the Hennepin County
Library Board had indicated that money had been budgeted and that it would be no
problem in obtaining 60,000 volumes which would still be an Zriadequate number to serve
a municipality the size of Edina.

COST OF, FRANCE. AVENU ROVED. Mr, Hyde stated that at the meeting of
October 4, 1965, the grade was approved for France Avenue between W, 72nd Street and
the Edina Village Limits. Definite price estimates were unavailable at that time
and Mr. Hyde asked that the present estimate of $160,000 for land acquisition and
other costs for the Hedberg property be confirmed by the Council; $60,000 of this
amount would be paid by the County Highway Department and the remaining $100,000
would be paid by the Village, and in turn, assessed against adjacent properties,

in order to complete the work in 1966.
