MINUTES of July 17 and 26, 1967, were approved as submitted seconded by Trustee Courtney and carried. MacMillan, VanValkenburg and . .- by motionof Trustee Johnson, NATIONAL DEFENSE AWARD PRESENTED. Mr. Robert Janes, Chairman of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, presented a National Civil Defense Award to Mayor Bredesen on behalf of the Office of Civil Defense, Department of the Army. of Edina had earned this award under the direction, of Chief Wayne W. Bennett, Director of Public Safety -and Civil Defense. approved Civil Defense Shelters completely stocked with supplies to accommodate 100% of "the population for fourteen days and that is the first 'municipality of 25,000 or over in the country to provide such protection for its citizens. Mr. Janes further pointed out that the award recognizes the outstanding accomplishment of Civil Defense Director Bennett and also recognizes the cooperation of Village officials, employees and citizens. Bredesen accepted the award with thanks and expressed the wish that all join in the thought- ful and hopeful prayer that the accommodations would never be needed.
