Previous proposals for variances for apartments for 7200 and
7250 France Ave. have been denied. The developer has now
requested similar variances for a project that is twice the size of
the previously denied projects, is the largest proposed apartment
complex in the city of Edina, and is sited for a residential
neighborhood west of France Ave. The project is totally out of
proportion is size, scope and character with our residential
neighborhood. It would increase the population of South Cornelia
neighborhood by 20-30%, exceed height provision by 50%,
density by 100%, deviates from the historical predictability for
west of France Ave. and is unacceptable to the vast majority of
South Cornelia neighbors. Given these factors, would you please
comment on how this project can be justified and approved.
Would you also comment if it is possible to suggest that the
developer present a project that would not require variances to
the existing height and density zoning provisions.
