EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY IL4LL ON
JANUARY 8, 1975
The meeting convened at 4:30 In the Conference Room of the Edina City Hall,
purpose of which meeting was to observe a demonstration of the Votouatic
electronic voting devise.
Answering rollcall were members Courtney, Richards, Schmidt and Mayor Van Val? I-
kenburg.
Nr, Edward kllbaclc of Computer Election Systems demonstrated the voting devise
and a mini computer for tabulation of votes and advised Council that the
system will benefit the City because less work will be required from precinct
judges, the computer results will be faster and more accurate than before,
and because af the elimination oE moving costs. Reference was made to a pro-
posal submitted by Mr. Lctllback dated August 5, 1974, for 200 Nodel IIZA
Votomtics with self-contained booths and other necessary equipment. Cost of
the Votomatics was given at $230 each, cost of the mini-computer at $25,900,
and a trade-in for Edina's 86 Automatic Votin,o Nzchhes of $43,250,00 would
be given. Total net cost given on the proposal was $31,179.00. Mr. Lellback
recornended one voting devise for each 125 voters. Because of the increase
in the nunber of voters since the proposal was made, Hr. Lellback revised the
number of devises desirable to 211, but made, no new proposal for thai: number.
Couiicil thanked Mr. Lellback for. making the presentation.
