Present were members Courtney, Richards, Schmidt, Shaw and Mayor Van Balkenburg. PURCHASE OF GRIMES HOUSE DISCUSSED. Councilwoman Schmidt advised Council that Bermel-Smaby had appraised the Grimes House, located at 4200 I?. 44th' Street, at $61,500, considering its historic value. has requested that the Council endorse the commitment of the Grixnes House to the National Register of Historic Sites by submitting it to the Elinnesota State Historical Society later this week. the house and the possibility of its purchase by the City. pointed out that Council must recognize the fact that a grant might not be available and that the City might have to purchase the property. Richards then offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the City of Edina recognize the historical significance of the Grimes House, located at 4200 I?. 44th Street in the City of She said that the Edina Historic Society Discussion ensued as to possible uses for Msyor Van Valkenburg Councilman Edina; and \?HEREAS, the historical enrichment that the Grimes House affords contributes to the entire area; XOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of Edina, Minnesota, do hereby endorse the commitment of the Grimes House to the National Register of .Historic Sites. Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded by Councilman Courtney and on rollcall there were five ayes and no nays and the resolution was adopted. It was agreed that the Nayor will talk to the City Attorney about re-writing the Sistoric Preservation Ordinance to conform with the summary of the ordinance. Councilwoman Schmidt will convey to Mrs. Walch that if she lists the house for sale with a real estate broker, she should claim the City of Edina as an except- ion to the listing agreement. 1976 BUDGET REQUESTS CONSIDERED. Mr. Rosland presented a revised list of improve- ments considered most necessary for Park Department needs in order of their import- ance. Automobile replacement was reduced from $3,600 to $2,400.- Council reduced the Planning Department requests for conferences and schools from $315 to $290 and printing from $500 to $100. budget was cut from $4,500 to $4,000. Public Works budget request was reduced by the elimination of a $600 calculator and one one-quarter ton pick-up and the reduction of pro'fessional services from $5,000 to $3,000. Public Works Stree.t Haintenance 'budget request for supplies was cut from $82,527 to $65,527 and brooms from $9,200 to $8,000. $34,648 to $25,000. $18,816 to $10,000, guard rail material from $3,731 to $3,000, chemicals from $5,000 to $4,000 and rip-rap, etc. from $2,000 to $1,500. Kr. Dalen was directed to check to fiod out if pzrking ramp maintenance could be charged to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Public \?arks Capital Outlay was reduced by the eEm- ination of an underbody scraper, a concrete router and an equipment-sign truck. A Loader was reduced from $22,000 to $19,000 and a distributor from $13,500 to new patrolman and a new clerk-typist and by reducing Conferences acd Schools from $2,770 to $2,590 and uniform allowance from $10,000 to $9,800. ion.budget request was reduced by the elimination of two new firemen, a siren and speaker for $500, plectron radio receiver for $1,040, curb replaceuent, etc., for $1,600, radio for $300, mici-pumper for $20,000 and the reductions of uniform allowance from $4,200 to $3,900, replacement of 8 beds from $5,800 to $2,100, improvements vehicles from $4,000 to $2,000 and speakkrs-intercom system frob $700 I $10,500 for Teen Program was taken out of the Recreation Program Also eliminated were a Legal advertising in the Administration Snow and ice removal supplies were cut from Signs and posts for street name signs were reduced from . . $10,000. Police Protection budget request was reduced by the elimination of one Fire Protect- . to $300. .
