Edina Fire, Police Departments Now Accepting Toy Donations
Edina, Minn., Nov. 26, 2014 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections and Police departments are serving as
collection sites for a toy drive benefitting Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) – a local non-profit
serving Edina, Bloomington, Richfield and South Minneapolis.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys valued between $10 and $20 will be collected until Tuesday, Dec. 18 at
Edina Fire Station 1, 6250 Tracy Ave., and the Edina Police Department, 4801 W. 50th St.
“Our two collection sites are usually the busiest for the program,” said Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections
Administrative Assistant Ruth Schmoll. “We collectively provide a very high percentage of the toys VEAP gets
and we hope to have another successful year.”
According to VEAP, the greatest need is for soft, push-pull-roll and music-and-movement toys for children
ages 0 to 3; picture and chapter books; arts-and-crafts activities; learning games and sporting goods for
children ages 4 to 12. VEAP also suggests hats, mittens, scarves and family games for all ages and $15 gift cards
to local retailers for older children. A full wish list of items is available online at www.veapvolunteers.org.
This year, VEAP plans to serve 5,000 kids in our community with the Holiday Store designed to assist
financially struggling parents provide stable and positive holiday memories for their children. Toys will be
distributed to eligible families between Dec. 11 and 19.
The Edina Fire Department is open for collections 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Police Department is open 24
hours a day.
