Fire Department to Host Open House Oct. 6
Edina, Minn., Sept. 26, 2018 – “LOOK. LISTEN. LEARN. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.” That’s the
theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week and looking, listening and learning is exactly what residents of all
ages can do at the Edina Fire Department’s open house 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 6.
The interactive open house focusing on all of that and more will be held at Fire Station No. 1, 6250 Tracy
Ave. Visitors can view displays about firefighting, emergency medical services, Special Operations, SWAT,
inspections and fire prevention. Children can try on firefighters’ turn-out gear and try using a fire hose.
“This is a great opportunity for us to open our doors to the community and show everyone what we do,”
said Fire Chief Tom Schmitz. “It has been 10 years since our last open house and we are really excited for the
event.”
Fire Marshal Rick Hammerschmidt agrees. “This is a great chance for the residents of Edina to see our station,
equipment and meet our fire personnel to discuss fire prevention, safety and how we serve our community,”
he said.
