FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘Open Streets on 50th’ Celebration Set for Sept. 23
Edina, Minn., Sept. 6, 2018 – A special electric vehicle ride and drive event, more vendors, an
expanded Pet Zone and a 3-D chalk artist are among the highlights of this year’s Open Streets on
50th celebration, set for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.
West 50th Street between Wooddale Avenue in Edina and Chowen Avenue in Minneapolis will be
closed to vehicle traffic, as will France Avenue from Market Street to 51st Street for the fourth
annual event. The closures start about noon, and the roads should reopen by 6 p.m.
The 50th & France Business & Professional Association and the City of Edina invite people to get
outside, be active and connect with neighbors during the event. Walk, skate or bike along the closed
streets, which will feature music, food, dancing, games, arts, yoga and other active events. Learn
about local businesses, artisans, civic, neighborhood and athletic associations at booths and events
along the route.
Many businesses in the area will be part of the celebration, offering sales or samples. Red Cow will
host activities for kids and a beer garden for the adults. Local restaurants will be offering food, plus
food trucks will be parked at the event. Dogs and their owners won’t want to miss the Pet Zone on
France just south of 50th. Listen to live music by the fountain on West 50th. Fun attractions include
bouncy houses, a caricature artist and the Volkswagen van photo booth.
Midwest Evolve and the City of Edina are hosting the Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive at Wooddale
Park, 4500 W. 50th St., during the event. People will be able to see a range of electric vehicles, talk to
owners, ask questions and, from 2 to 4 p.m., even take a vehicle for a test drive.
