Annual Tree Lighting to take place at 50th & France
Edina, Minn., Nov. 19, 2018 – 50th & France’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov.
24 in conjunction with Small Business Saturday.
“The holidays at 50th & France will be filled with lots of great shopping, fun free activities for kids and visits
with Santa,” said Rachel Thelemann, Executive Director of the 50th & France Business & Professional
Association. “We are very excited to kick off the season with Mayor Hovland and this special event.”
Area stores open at 10 a.m. that day and will celebrate with exclusive deals to celebrate local businesses. The
Tree Lighting will take place at 5 p.m., on West 50th Street in place of the fountain, and kick-off with remarks
from Mayor Jim Hovland and the Mayor of Whoville, who will give away eight tickets to “How the Grinch
Stole Christmas” at the The Children’s Theatre. The 20-foot tall whimsical tree designed by Christmas
Panache will feature ornaments and decorations inspired by Dr. Seuss’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The tree will remain up until after New Year’s Day.
Other events that day will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. They include a visit by Santa, strolling carolers,
performances by Platinum Dance Center and complimentary coffee and cider provided by Caribou Coffee.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit VEAP.
Parents can drop off their kids at the Lunds & Byerlys Community Room to enjoy festive projects and free
child care provided by College Nannies + Tutors. Time slots are from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Parking is available in the North and South ramps, along with free valet that will continue throughout the year.
