Prior to joining the Edina Fire Department, Memmer, who holds an associate degree from Chippewa Valley Technical College, worked as a Firefighter for the Chippewa Fire Department and an EMT for the Osceola Area Ambulance Service. Memmer also worked as a Paramedic for Gold Cross in Duluth and a Firefighter/First Responder in Proctor, Minnesota. Memmer, given badge No. 98, said he enjoys working in this field because he wants to live a life of service, and because of his interest in human anatomy and physiology. Having interned with the Edina Fire Department, Memmer was already familiar with the department. “I felt welcomed and like I was part of the team,” he said. “This is hard to find, so I knew it was a special department and city.” In his free time, Memmer enjoys hunting, fishing, mountain biking and camping. Skinner, given badge No. 97, holds two associate degrees -- one from Hennepin County Technical College and one from Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota. Skinner previously served as a Firefighter with the Chaska and Hopkins Fire departments as well as a Paramedic with Hennepin Healthcare. As a fourth-generation firefighter, Skinner said he grew up at the fire station, so it’s all he’s ever wanted to do. Because of his values, Skinner said, “I felt that I would fit in very well here with the culture of the department as well as the city itself.” Skinner also said he looks forward to getting to know the community. “I am extremely excited to finally be working at my dream job,” he added. Fire Chief Tom Schmitz said at the swearing in of Memmer and Skinner, “the hiring process takes several months, and we navigate our way to find the best candidates who will serve our community with our values of integrity, quality and service. We are swearing in two of those individuals today, because they meet that criteria.” For more information on the Edina Fire Department, visit EdinaMN.gov/Fire. -30-
