The conference, coming to Minneapolis March 27-30, puts the Twin Cities at the heart of the ceramic arts world. “The Edina Art Center has had a decades-long tradition of excellence in pottery making and we are thrilled to have two juried exhibits as a part of the NCECA conference,” said Edina Art Center General Manager Susan Tarnowski. In the Margaret Foss Gallery, “OutsideHERS: Potters by Nature” will feature the work of NCECA artists Lisa Buck, Linda Christianson, Jil Franke and Jan McKeachie Johnson. This exhibition explores nature as a catalyst for inspired making and sustained studio practice by four women potters in the St. Croix River Valley. The Tea Room Gallery hosts “The Natural World in Clay: An Evening Walk,” with 75 luminaria made by instructors and students leading visitors to the Art Center and the outdoor kilns. The gallery will feature the work of Edina Art Center teaching artists Brad Benn, Krissy Catt, Siri Silpala Doan, Danielle Ferndandez, Vanessa Greene and Grace Pass. The exhibition explores relationships with function, form and glazing techniques. The artists demonstrate their skills as potters and sculptors with their forms, from fish, to female figures, functional pottery to atmospheric glazing. Pottery from Art Center instructor artists Erin Gunelson and Sandra Shaughnessy will be highlighted in the Clark Gift Shop. A special opening reception featuring all the artists will be 5-9 p.m. March 28 at the Art Center, 4701 W. 64th St. Light refreshments will be served. All the artwork will be on display through April 5. For more information, visit EdinaArtCenter.com or call 952-903-5780. -30-
