The playground will be added near the east entrance of the park, 7640 Parklawn Ave., in the Parklawn Neighborhood. Walking paths and pond vegetation restoration in that section of the park are also part of this initial phase. Initially, input will be sought on playground colors, safety surface and play elements such as slides, swings, climbing structures or spinners. People will be able to give feedback in two ways:  Online at BetterTogetherEdina.org. An online survey with examples will collect responses April 1-14.  At an open house set for 5:30-7 p.m. April 10 at the east end of the park where the playground will be built. A tent will be set up in that space. Everyone is welcome to give feedback, especially children. “We hope adults bring children to the open house or let them make their own choices in the online survey,” said Recreation Supervisor Tiffany Bushland. “We are building this playground for the children, so we want them to be involved and choose what they like.” Input from the online survey and the open house will be used to develop a design concept. A second online survey will follow later in April to collect comments, including selecting specific colors and play elements from the options available. The City Council is scheduled to approve a final design using input received through the various stages of the process. Construction on the playground is expected to begin in Fall 2019. The playground is part of the overall Fred Richards Park Master Plan, which was approved by City Council in 2017. Future phases will be built once a funding source is identified.
