I. Call To Order
Vice Chair Loving called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Answering roll call was Vice Chair Loving and members Schilling, Kelly, Nymo, Blake and Mondry.
Staff Liaison, Emily Bodeker, and Preservation Consultant Robert Vogel were also in attendance.
III. Approval Of Meeting Agenda
Motion was made by Kelly and seconded by Blake to approve the meeting agenda. All
voted aye. The Motion carried.
IV. Approval Of Meeting Minutes
Motion was made by Schilling and seconded by Kelly to approve the minutes from the April
10, 2018 Heritage Preservation Commission meeting. All voted aye. The motion carried.
V. Community Comment: None
VI. Reports/Recommendations
A. Certificate of Appropriateness: 4517 Drexel Avenue
Staff Liaison Bodeker explained that the Certificate of Appropriateness request for the Tudor Revival style
home built in 1930 included the addition of two dormers on the north and south sides of the house, visible
from the front façade. Ms. Bodeker concluded that she agreed with Consultant Vogel’ positive evaluation
of the request and recommended approval of the Certificate of Appropriateness conditioned on the plans
presented. The Commission discussed building materials and asked the applicant questions on the
materials proposed with the project.
Applicant and Homeowner Present- Adam Bender and Martina Malek
Motion was made by Schilling and seconded by Blake to approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness request for changes to the front facade subject to the plans presented. All
voted aye. The motion carried.

Member Aderhold entered the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
B. Heritage Preservation Award
The City received two nominations for the 2018 Preservation Award. The Commission reviewed the
two nominations The Commission reviewed the two applications and awarded 6400 Parnell Avenue the
2018 Edina Heritage Award.
C. Preservation Basics
Preservation Consultant Vogel told the Commission he plans to go over some preservation basics over
the next few meetings. He discussed surveying historic properties.

VIII. Chair And Member Comments:
Vice Chair Loving asked about financial incentives to incentivize deeming properties as historic. The
Commission discussed options on how to mark historic properties (such as a medallion). Bodeker
recommended that if the Commission would like to discuss financial incentive opportunities that they
should discuss it with Council during future work plan discussions.

X. Adjournment: 8:05 p.m.
Motion made by Kelly to adjourn the May 8, 2018 meeting at 8:05 p.m. Motion seconded
by Nymo. Motion carried.
