Meeting Summary:
Welcome, introduction
Co-chairs: overview of previous conversation
Operations and Maintenance
Q&A with City public works staff on their role for maintaining storm infrastructure and
in responding to floods.
Street sweeping and sediment management, emergency triage during floods, failure
based vs. proactive interventions, equipment and staff resources in typical vs.
emergency situations, difference in treatment and concern for typical local flooding,
landlocked basin, and creek based flooding.
Emergency Preparedness and Communications
Ross presented overview of Edina’s crisis communications plan and emergency
operations plan.
Feedback provided to improve triage and intake during flood situations that do not
activate emergency operations plan.
Task Force Preparations for Council/Next Steps
Where have we come from? Where are we now?
Work products could involve amendment to FRRS and additional engagement within
Morningside neighborhood
Requested: Staff report with draft summary of task-force discussions to-date to guide
council presentation
Next steps and action items
Future meeting dates
o Tuesday September 24th, 6-8pm – deliberation
o Optional if needed: Tuesday, October 1st – additional deliberation
o Tuesday October 15th – presentation at council
Staff will be meeting with co-chairs next week and will communicate that discussion
with Task Force members
