Volunteers to Tackle Buckthorn at Pamela Park
Edina, Minn., July 2, 2019 – More than 100 volunteers are expected to descend on Pamela Park Saturday morning, July 13, to remove invasive buckthorn.
The volunteers of all ages from River Valley Church will assist City of Edina Park Maintenance staff to pull, cut, haul and remove the invasive trees that choke out native and more desirable
plants and trees.
Each year, members of the church volunteer to spend a summer day helping rid Edina parks of buckthorn. This year the effort will be made at Pamela Park, 4303 W. 58th St., where church
members have previously helped remove buckthorn. They’ve also assisted in removing it from Bredesen Park.
“River Valley Church brings us a huge group of people who do the hard work to remove buckthorn,” said City Forester Luther Overholt. “By lunch, we have huge piles of cut buckthorn to
haul away.”
The City’s annual free fall buckthorn dump for residents will be Oct. 26 and 27 across from Braemar Golf Dome, 7420 Braemar Blvd.
