All vehicles must be off City streets between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. No vehicle may be parked on any street after a snowfall of at least 1.5 inches until the street has been plowed to its full width. The ban on overnight parking, which runs through March 31, is in effect regardless of the weather forecast. The efficiency and speed of snow removal is among the most praised City services, and residents help with that by following the parking rules. Public Works crews clear 26 routes, and the process is faster if they don’t have to move around vehicles. “The residents of this community are partners in helping us provide excellent snow removal,” said Public Works Director Brian Olson. “Snow plowing is the only service that the Public Works Department provides to the residents and businesses of this community that touches every property during every snowfall. I would personally thank all the residents that understand the parking regulations. You make us better.” Edina Police Officers assist in efforts by patrolling the roads and towing violating vehicles if necessary to keep the plowing schedules on track. “Towing vehicles is the last thing we want to do, but we need to get the cars off the street after a snowfall of 1.5 inches or more,” said Police Chief Dave Nelson. “We do our best to get ahold of the vehicle owner before towing, but it delays plowing schedules.” Vehicles illegally on roads not only slow down plowing, they can make it very dangerous. Plow drivers might not see a car and accidentally hit it. Plowed snow might block in or bury a vehicle so other drivers don’t clearly see it.
