The Edina Senior Center is one of 16 centers to receive this honor for its innovation and creativity and creating a replicable program for older adults. The “See Them Shine” calendar project was created in collaboration with Art of Edina and Senior Community Services. The project aimed to highlight the “free spirit” of Edina’s senior community, and all proceeds from calendar sales went to the Edina Senior Center and Senior Community Services. About $1,2000 was raised for the two organizations and calendars were sold out. “The Edina Senior Center is an important destination for older adults in our community, and we work hard to keep our programs enjoyable and educational for our members,” said Nicole Gorman, City of Edina Recreation Supervisor. “We are proud and honored to receive a NISC Program of Excellence Award and hope that other senior centers across the country will be able to replicate our program to continue to help their centers benefit for its members.” Photographer Jill Emmer helped produce the calendar and capture the spirit of Edina’s seniors. “We were so thrilled to partner with the Edina Senior Center and Art of Edina’s fabulous photographer, Jill Emmer, to hold a fundraiser that helped to dispel myths around aging and celebrate Edina seniors,” said Cat Beringer, Senior Community Services Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.
