Edina Police K-9 receives protective vest
Edina, Minn., March 25, 2014 – K-9 Blade recently received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to the
efforts of Vested Interest in K-9s, a non-profit based in Massachusetts.
A successful fundraiser hosted by the non-profit in St. Paul last fall brought in enough money to purchase
vests for more than 10 Minnesota K-9s.
“Police service dogs are generally the first to go into and the last to leave the most dangerous situations,” said
Blade’s handler, Officer Jason Behr. “Due to this donation, Blade will have a level of protection similar to what
I have.”
Each vest costs $950 and has a five-year warranty. Since Vested Interest in K9s was founded in 2009, they
have provided lifesaving body armor for more than 580 police K-9s. This is Blade’s first vest since he started
with the Edina Police Department in 2010.
