FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Edina To Recognize Earth Day With A Forum On
‘Powering Our Energy Future’
Edina, Minn., April 3, 2014 – The City of Edina’s Energy & Environment Commission will recognize Earth
Day with an environmental forum entitled “What Will Turn You on in 2030? Powering Our Energy Future.”
The forum will be held at South View Middle School on Monday, April 28.
The event will begin with an action resource fair from 6 to 7 p.m. The program will begin at 7 p.m. and will
feature keynote speaker Michael Noble, Executive Director of Fresh Energy. Fresh Energy works for a future
where energy production and transportation stimulate local economies and create clean energy jobs.
In addition, students from Cornelia Elementary will share their "Paper-Free Earth Day" project; students from
South View Middle School Environmental Group will act as hosts, present a skit on "What Will Turn You on
in 2030," provide valet bicycle parking and report on their many environmental projects; and Edina High
School Project Earth leaders will unveil their project to power electronic devices from a solar-powered kiosk
in the school media center.
Noble and other speakers will address the theme of “Powering Our Energy Future” throughout the evening
by examining how energy systems will be different by the year 2030. The forum is interactive and will have
time for attendees to participate in the discussion through real-time polling.
“I am so honored to engage with students and young leaders in Edina who are working hard to express a
vision we can all embrace: a prosperous and just world that cuts carbon pollution and relies on clean energy,”
said Noble.
The event is free and open to the public. The forum will be held in the auditorium at South View Middle
School; please enter using door No. 7. Additional bicycle parking is available and door prizes will be drawn for
those who bike to the event. All attendees can enter a drawing for three Home Energy Squad Visits from the
Center for Energy and Environment.
