Braemar Arena Invites Public To Grand Opening of Coaches
Resource Center
Edina, Minn., April 21, 2014 – Braemar Arena proudly announces the grand opening of its Coaches
Resource Center. Doors open at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25.
The Coaches Resource Center is the proud home of the vast collection of Bob O’Connor. Simply put, the
Center is a hockey information utopia. Inside, there are materials covering topics from anatomy and sports
medicine to conditioning and the history of hockey. There are drill books for various age levels, as well
as books on Russian hockey basics and Czech defensive strategies. And that’s just a very small taste of the
depth of material available. O’Connor will attend the grand opening to discuss his arsenal of all things hockey.
O’Connor served as USA Hockey’s Coach-in-Chief from 1994 to 2006 and is one of the game’s legendary
figures. A disciple of Herb Brooks, he also coached with the masters of high school hockey, Willard Ikola and
Bart Larson. Throughout his life, he has been engrossed in hockey and in his desire to learn everything he can
about the sport; he has collected a vast wealth of hockey history, from books to magazines to videos to
paintings.
His collection quickly outgrew the basement of his home, and Braemar is proud to share his artifacts and his
passion for hockey with the public.
Some of O’Connor’s collections are also on display at USA Hockey National Headquarters and Providence
University, where O’Connor played Division I hockey.
The Braemar Arena Coaches Resource Center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Please feel free to
read books, scan/copy pages and watch videos while utilizing the space!
A grant from the USA Hockey Foundation made the space a reality.
