FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Police remind residents to take preventive measures
Edina, Minn., May 29, 2014 — Due to a string of burglaries in the community, the Edina Police
Department reminds residents to take measures to protect their property from burglary.
Since May 27, there have been three burglaries. On May 27, two took place during daytime hours in the
5600 block of France Avenue and the 4700 block of 62nd Street. Another took place in the early
morning hours May 28 in the 7700 block of Tanglewood Court. Entry was forced through the front
door at all three homes.
The Edina Police Department recommends following these tips to prevent yourself from becoming a
victim:
Keep doors to the home and garage doors closed and locked.
Exterior doors should be made of solid wood or steel and have a deadbolt with at least a one-
inch throw.
Install a security strike plate – a six-inch strike plate that uses six three-inch screws – to
reinforce the door frame.
Install pins in double-hung windows and remove the cranks on first-floor and basement
casement windows.
Install motion sensor lights in the front and back of your home.
When you leave your home, put a lamp and radio on a timer.
The Edina Police Department has increased patrol to include more unmarked and marked squads in the
two areas. Residents are also encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see or hear anything out of
the ordinary, including suspicious vehicles in the area.
