City Continues Environmental Film Series With ‘Bag It’
Edina, Minn., May 1, 2014 – The City of Edina Energy & Environment Commission (EEC) will present the
third installment of its 2014 Environmental Film series on Friday, May 16.
The documentary “Bag It” will be shown for free at 7 p.m. at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. This film
explores issues raised by plastic use, particularly the impacts of single-use plastic bags.
Preceding the showing, attendees can connect with local organizations, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
“‘Bag It’ is a film that looks at one of the conundrums of modern life: What to do with all those plastic bags?
The film also looks at some of the unintended environmental consequences of using plastic for many of the
items in our daily lives,” explained EEC Commissioner John Howard.
The film explores these issues and identifies how our daily reliance on plastic threatens not only waterways
and marine life, but human health, too. The average American uses about 500 plastic bags each year, for about
12 minutes each. This single-use mentality has led to the formation of a floating island of plastic debris in the
Pacific Ocean more than twice the size of Texas. Further, common plastic additives have been shown to have
links to a range of health and development disorders.
