City of Edina Police Department Welcomes New Officer
Edina, Minn., May 19, 2014 – Allie Wilson was recently hired as the Edina Police Department’s newest
officer.
Wilson began work as a Police Officer on Monday, May 5. Wilson was sworn in as the newest Police Officer
for the Edina Police Department on Thursday, May 15, in the Council Chambers of Edina City Hall. Wilson’s
badge, No. 122, was pinned on by her parents, Robert and Lesa Wilson of Champlin, Minnesota.
Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement with a minor in criminal justice from Metropolitan State
University. Most recently, Wilson was a Community Service Officer for the City of Maple Grove.
During her childhood in Champlin, Wilson became involved in the Police Explorers program at the age of 14,
and continued with this program for almost five years. Upon her 18th birthday, Wilson joined the Champlin
Reserves until her move to Maple Grove. “I knew I wanted to be a Police Officer when I was just a little girl. It
was the only job I ever wanted to do,” said Wilson.
After her college graduation in December 2013, Wilson applied to various agencies around the Twin Cities.
The City of Edina, however, was her top pick. “The Edina Police Department has a really great reputation. The
public perceives the officers and their work in a very positive light,” she said.
“There’s good training, good equipment, good everything, really,” she mentioned as she explained how
different this position feels in relation to her past experiences. “I feel a sense of accomplishment with this job,
and I’m looking forward to the different types of work I will be able to do in this position like visit schools and
interact with local students and other community members.”
