Edina/Eden Prairie Police Explorers Receive Awards at State Conference
Edina, Minn., May 8, 2014 – Sixteen Edina/Eden Prairie Explorers recently attended the 39th Annual
Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer State Conference in Rochester, Minnesota, and took home first place in
the White Collar Crime category, as well as numerous other awards.
Explorers Posts expose young people to law enforcement training with the hope that it will help them
develop a career in law enforcement. The conference hosted over 900 Explorers ranging in age from 14 to 21
and coming from 45 different police departments around the state.
The Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer received the following awards:
1st place – White Collar Crime Category
2nd place – Interview/Interrogation Category
2nd place – Job Interview Category, awarded to Explorer Alex Geiger
2nd place – Search and Seizure Category
3rd place – Police Exam Category, awarded to Explorer Katie Kline
4th place – Death Investigations Category
In addition, Explorer Alex Geiger won the Officer Shawn Silvera Scholarship of $750 and Explorer Kayla
Stene was elected by her peers to be the State of Minnesota's Explorer Youth Representative.
“To obtain the scholarship and Youth Representative nomination, you have to complete an essay and deliver a
speech in front of over 1,000 people,” explained Boosalis. “I'm extremely proud of the Explorers.
“This program is supported by everyone at the Edina Police Department, not solely by the advisors. This
program could not be successful without the Department's team effort.”
The Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer Post will now travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete at the National
Explorer Conference in July.
