FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City to Break Ground for Edina Sports Dome
Edina, Minn., May 1, 2014 – The Edina Parks & Recreation Department will break ground for the Edina
Sports Dome at a special ceremony at the site noon Tuesday, May 6.
The new 400-foot-long, 250-foot wide, 250-foot high dome, adjacent to Braemar Arena, 7501 Ikola Way, will
be inflated most years from November until April, but its artificial turf will be available the rest of the year.
Also included in the project are an outdoor refrigerated ice rink and replacement of east arena’s
refrigeration system at Braemar Arena and improvements at Pamela Park. The entire project is scheduled to
be complete in early December at an estimated cost of $12.5 million.
“The residents of Edina have been trying to get a sports dome in our community for over a decade. The
conditions are right and we are excited to begin construction,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ann
Kattreh. “Our athletic associations have made an unprecedented commitment to make the Edina Sports
Dome a reality.”
Kattreh encourages representatives of athletic associations, elected officials, contractors and the general
public to attend the short groundbreaking ceremony. Pre-construction activities, including removal of
playground equipment and soil corrections will be under way.
For more information on the groundbreaking ceremony or the Sports Dome project, contact the Parks &
Recreation Department, 952-826-0367.
