Edina Gears up for Night to Unite
Edina, Minn., July 18, 2014 – Every year, the state of Minnesota joins together to celebrate Night to Unite
the first Tuesday of August. This year, the annual event will take place in neighborhoods and parks around
Edina on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The Edina Police Department encourages residents to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the
evening outside with neighbors.
Last year, more than 50 Night to Unite block parties were registered with the City of Edina. Officers are
available to attend parties, but resources are limited so register early to request an officer. The deadline to
register is Friday, July 25.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to get to know their neighbors, so that they can watch out for each
other and each other’s homes,” said Police Department Receptionist Amy Bachler, who’s organizing this
year’s Night to Unite. “[When officers come to parties], it helps residents feel comfortable with their
presence in Edina, so they aren’t afraid to call.”
In conjunction with the neighborhood celebrations, the Edina Police Department will host its third-annual
Night to Unite party for residents from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rosland Park, 4300 W. 66th St.
Participants who attend the party at Rosland Park can expect squad car and ambulance demonstrations, an
appearance by a K-9 officer, giveaways, drawings and complimentary snacks and beverages. Edina Police will be
present to give crime prevention tips and answer any questions participants may have.
Call 952-826-1610 to RSVP for the party by Monday, July 28.
Nigh to Unite was created to promote neighborhood spirit, increase awareness in crime prevention and build
a stronger partnership between the Police Department and community members.
