Edina Independence Day Parade Grand Marshals Named
Edina, Minn., July 3, 2014 – The theme of the 2014 Edina Independence Day Parade is A Salute to Edina’s
Volunteers. In that spirit, the Parade Planning Committee has extended the honor of serving as Grand Marshal
to four individuals who represent a variety of civic groups and non-profits in Edina.
“The grand marshal sits in a place of honor toward the head of the parade. It’s a great way to recognize
outstanding achievement, but it only goes to one or two people a year,” explained Parade Planning
Committee Chair John Swon. “As a change, we are pleased to extend the honor to not one, but four grand
marshals representing a variety of civic groups and nonprofits.”
The four marshals represent the Edina Chamber of Commerce, Edina Federated Women’s Club (EFWC),
Edina Lions Club and Rotary Club of Edina.
Meg Chiodo will represent the Edina Chamber of Commerce, of which she has been a member for the past
four years. She serves on the Board of Directors, Gala Committee and supports the Chamber’s Taste of
Edina. The Edina Chamber is a not-for-profit organization and is committed to helping Edina businesses thrive.
Arlene Clapp will represent EFWC in the parade. She has been a member of EFWC since 2012, served as the
Vice President of Membership from 2013-2014 and is currently the EFWC President. She has been a co-chair
of the Feds Fest fundraiser, helping to raise over $40,000 benefitting Edina Education Fund and Edina Give and
Go. Clapp has been a resident of Edina for 44 years and also volunteers with other non-profit groups around
the Twin Cities.
Larry Friedrichs, a lifelong Edina resident, will serve as Grand Marshal representing the Edina Lions Club.
Fredrichs served as the group’s President from 2009 to 2010 and has held the position of Treasurer since
2011. The organization aims to meet the needs of communities on a local and on a global scale, with monthly
service projects with Feed My Starving Children and Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People. The group also
raises money to support Opportunity Partners, Pacer Center, Special Olympics, Can-Do Canines and the
Lions Eye Bank at the University of Minnesota.
Jennifer Bennerotte is President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Edina and will represent the group as Grand
Marshal. She has served as an Edina Rotary Club member for 10 years. The Rotary Club of Edina supports
several local and international projects and initiatives, including an international youth exchange program, a
mentoring program at Edina High School and an after-school recreation program at the Southdale YMCA for
Cornelia Elementary School students.
The parade begins behind Edina City Hall at Eden Avenue and Willson Road (just east of Minnesota Highway
100) and proceeds one mile east on 50th Street to the U.S. Bank parking lot at Halifax Avenue. Presenting
sponsors are Lunds/Byerly’s and U.S. Bank.
