Mayor Hovland To Walk Yorktown Community Garden
Edina, Minn., Aug. 7, 2014 – Edina Mayor Jim Hovland will lead his monthly “Walk with the Mayor” from
Yorktown Community Garden to the Promenade on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 9 a.m.
“Walkers can see how the Edina Community Garden is growing as well as what is happening on the
Promenade,” said Recreation Supervisor Kristin Aarsvold. “Many art installations along the Promenade change
seasonally. Walkers will be introduced to the Promenade and learn more about future plans for expansion.”
The Yorktown Community Garden, constructed in 2013, is home to a 55-plot garden and is often considered
a breath of fresh air in the Southdale area of the City. The 0.75-mile extension of Centennial Lakes Park
combined with beautiful pieces of local artwork make up the Edina Promenade, creating the “ultimate urban
escape.”
“[Walkers will] see the wonderful community garden…and enjoy a good walk and stimulating conversation
with many of [their] neighbors,” Hovland said.
Walk with the Mayor events are held on the third Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. In case of rain, residents
should meet at the Caribou Coffee at Southdale Center.
For more information on the Walk with the Mayor, contact Aarsvold, 952-826-0433.
