Mayor Hovland Hosts September ‘Walk with the Mayor’
Edina, Minn., Sept. 10, 2014 – Edina Mayor Jim Hovland will lead his monthly “Walk with the Mayor” 9
a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
“The walk will start at the Edina Senior Center [5280 Grandview Square] and travel through the Grandview
District [located near Highway 100 and Vernon Avenue South],” said Recreation Supervisor Kristin Aarsvold.
“Based on the age and condition of some buildings, the Grandview District was identified as an area of
potential change several years ago,” said Economic Development Manager Bill Neuendorf. “Some changes
have already taken place -- most recently, the full-scale remodeling of Jerry’s Foods, the addition of a
Walgreen’s pharmacy and relocation of the Public Works garage.”
The City is currently working to select a development partner to determine how to best use the former
Public Works site, 5146 Eden Ave., in the Grandview area.
“Residents can come walk the area and learn more about the redevelopment process,” said Aarsvold.
Walk with the Mayor events are held on the third Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. In case of rain, residents
should meet at the Caribou Coffee at Southdale Center.
