City of Edina Awarded ‘Save the Summer’ Grant
Edina, Minn., July 17, 2020 – The City of Edina will offer two new programs, Water Safety Days and Parks at Play, in August thanks to a grant received by the Parks & Recreation Department.
The City was recently awarded a “Save the Summer” grant from Hennepin County to help modify activities to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and provide opportunities for children to get
outside and be active. The grant will help fund activity needs like staffing and equipment.
Water Safety Days will be an exciting, 30-minute educational session taught by the Edina Fire Department on water safety in the outdoors. Each participant will leave with the tools and
resources to have a safe summer. All attendees must be 10 or older and will receive a free U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Sessions will be offered Aug. 5 and 6. Times and locations
vary, and registration will be required in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.
Parks at Play will invite youth to visit various Edina parks to enjoy games and arts and crafts from Aug. 3 to 20. All activities will be held outdoors and will be canceled in the event
of rain. Registration is required and participants and families have the flexibility to choose dates, times and the park that best fits their schedule. To encourage the health and safety
of participants and staff, these activities will have lower participation numbers.
To register or view a complete list of current recreation activities, visit EdinaParks.com.
For those not quite ready for in-person programs, the Parks & Recreation Department continues to offer RECtivity Boxes, an at-home activity box delivered to keep children engaged and
creating. Residents can bring the excitement into their home by choosing from different box themes like “Summer STEM” and “Music in the Making.” Pick out a box and order online at EdinaMN.gov/RECtiv
ity.
