FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina to Hold 10th ‘Days of Remembrance’
Edina, Minn., July 6, 2021 – The City of Edina’s Human Rights & Relations Commission’s 10th Days of Remembrance will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Edina City Hall, 4801
W. 50th St. Residents may attend in person or watch on Edina TV or online.
This year’s event will feature guest speaker Manny Gabler, a Holocaust refugee. Gabler was one of nearly 20,000 Jews who fled from Europe to Shanghai, China, during World War II.
“When I joined the Human Rights & Relations Commission, one of the initiatives I knew I wanted to be a part of was the Days of Remembrance event,” said Michael Epstein, chair of the
Commission. “This event is truly impactful because these brave speakers give us a firsthand account of the atrocities that they experienced and witnessed. With every passing year, it
is more and more important that we hear their lessons and I admire the City of Edina for making it a priority and for giving these speakers the forum to get their message across. The
Holocaust, as well as other instances of genocide must never be forgotten, and these programs assure us of that.”
Edina hosts Days of Remembrance each year in memory of victims of the Holocaust and to encourage the community on the need for respect for all people. Days of Remembrance was recognized
beginning in 2011 following a proclamation adopted by the City Council. In previous years, Edina has acknowledged women in the Holocaust and genocides, the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan
Genocide, the crises in the Congo in which six million people have perished since 1996, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and
the liberation of Auschwitz.
The Days of Remembrance human rights forum is free and open to the public. Comcast subscribers can watch it live and in rebroadcasts on Edina TV, Channels 813 and 16. Others can watch
live on the City’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/EdinaMN, or website, EdinaMN.gov/LiveMeetings.
