This program is organized by the Music in Edina Working Group, part of the Edina Arts & Culture Commission. The Minnehaha Music Repertory Orchestra concert follows a series of concerts held over the summer as part of the Music in Edina offerings. The Minnehaha Music Repertory Orchestra, formed in 2013, encourage musicians who want to improve their skills, learn new music and advance their abilities with music they already know. This performance is the inaugural concert featuring Conductor Craig Randal Johnson and Tenor Justin Berkowitz. A number of pieces will be performed, including “Egmont Overture” by Ludwig van Beethoven; selections from “Sleeping Beauty” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky; “The Moldau” by Bedřich Smetana; and arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti. Guest soloist Justin Berkowitz, originally from Edina, is a young tenor who has been praised for his "exacting and animated" performances and is quickly gaining national attention for his character work, as well as his "bright future in Bel Canto." This concert was chosen as the fall concert at the direction of Music in Edina Working Group member and Minnehaha Music co-founder Hilary Santoni. According to Edina Art Center General Manager Michael Frey, the Music in Edina Working Group was very excited to hear that such a unique group was based in Edina. “We want to promote anything that is Edina based. The mission of the Arts & Culture Commission is really to help smaller organizations develop and grow and to help people in the City know about them,” said Frey. “[Minnehaha Music] is really a wonderful organization. They have concerts anywhere from 6 to 30 musicians. … It was exciting to hear that Edina had such an ensemble and they pull individuals from all over the metro area.” Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased online at www.MusicInEdina.org.
