In September, Future iQ Partners, the consultant hired by the City to lead its visioning project, led two “think tank” community workshops to talk about what Edina may look like in a decade or two. Future iQ Partners compiled the feedback from the workshops into the report “Vision Edina: Scenarios of the Future.” “The work to date has produced four plausible and distinct possible futures for the future of Edina,” said Future iQ Partners CEO David Beurle. “These different futures reflect varying emphasis around two major themes.” The first theme is balancing the City’s residential and commercial redevelopment, which represents the amount and combination of single-home neighborhoods through to higher density mixed-use and urban renewal concepts. The second theme focuses on the community’s fabric and character, including how socially progressive Edina becomes, demographic trends and how inward- or outward-looking the City becomes. “The different scenarios reflecting these themes provides a framework for citizens to consider future options and what will best serve the current and future generations that make Edina their home,” noted Beurle. Those who live or work in Edina are encouraged to view the report and provide feedback by participating in one of three public workshops in November or by hosting a workshop. “If there are 10 or more residents who are willing to come together for the workshop or share part of their meeting time, we will find a facilitator,” said Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt. Groups that have already scheduled workshops include the League of Women Voters, Edina Senior Center, Edina Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Edina and five neighborhood associations. “Residents should be interested, as this is an opportunity to have input into the overarching vision, which will shape the comprehensive plan and action plans,” said Beurle. “The outcomes of this work will inform and help shape important future investment and policy decisions in the City, which in turn will shape the character and nature of the City, its neighborhoods and commercial areas.” “Vision Edina: Scenarios of the Future” and additional information on how to get involved is available at www.EdinaMN.gov/VisionEdina.
